The first round got long fast, and I still had more names on my list. So here is Part 2, with nine more women I shared the screen with during my brief run in the adult business in the mid-1990s. No pretending every shared credit came with a backstage story. The main prerequisite is that we shared an actual scene – not that we appeared in the same movie. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as part one, and as much as I drooled over some long forgotten memories while writing it.

Will there be a part 3? It’s unlikely. As I’ve said, my career lasted only a little over a year and a half. The fact I had so many ladies to list and choose from is a result of me burning the candle at both ends. And the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

So – we’ll have to be happy with what we’ve got. All things considered, it’s a pretty impressive (and beautiful) repertoire if I do say so myself. People still write to me about a photo, a scene, or a moment they remember from the 1990s. Some remember more than I do. Glad you like it, but if I ever have to have a discussion about Gang Bang Girl 14 again – it will be too soon. Glad everyone liked it so much, though.

A Short Career That Stayed With People

That era was 1993 through 1995. I entered the business right after I turned 18 and was out by 19 and a half. In the Tom Byron interview, he remembered meeting me for the first time and asking why I was doing porn because I was “too cute for it“. He meant it as a compliment. I took it that way. It was blunt, but Tom has never been known for dressing things up.

A short career wasn’t the differentiator. Plenty of people worked for a short time and were forgotten. I suppose, especially based on Tom’s comment, that I gave people something unique to remember. The timing mattered too. A fan might have found me in a magazine, on a rental shelf, or much later through somebody else’s old favorites. There was no single path into it, which may be why people remember different versions of the same period.

Some remember “cute” Vanessa. Some remember “filthy” Vanessa.

What Made Me Stand Out

I was young. I had a great body. I did not look or act like I had been prepared for a corporate photo shoot before I showed up. There was a girl-next-door quality to me that did not fit the polished image people expected from a porn star in the 1990s. Yest my performances were so voracious it conflicted a bit with my innocent look. That contrast was part of the appeal. Am I on the right track here, fans?

A quick aside: I hope none of this comes off as pretentious. I have trouble writing about myself. This is meant to be objective and honest.

I was not trying to play a character. In the interview, I described myself as doe-eyed and ready for whatever people threw at me. I was new, I was open, and I did not come in with a big plan.

The Look People Remember

My first scene was with Ed Powers, and I had dreadlocks at the time. Later, I cut my hair into the short bob most people connect with me. There are a couple of modern porn stars with dreads, but back then I was probably advised to lose them. So the pixie cut was not a marketing plan. It was a haircut that worked (thank goodness), was a product of de-dreadlocking, and then became part of the image people kept in their heads.

The look helped people recognize me quickly. It put more attention on my face, and it did not blend in with the bigger, more polished styles that were common then. Still, it was one part of the picture. If the work had not connected, nobody would be talking about a haircut attached to a little lady named Vanessa thirty years later.

The Work Was Part of It Too

I did scenes that were more extreme than a lot of performers were doing at the time. That was part of who I was on screen, and people noticed it. It would be silly to pretend the work did not matter or that fans were only responding to a face and a body.

Some fans remember titles. Others remember one scene, one outfit, or the way I looked at the camera. I have seen enough comments and messages to know that the details are different for everyone. In my 1995 on-set story, I wrote about one day on the set of The Butt Detective. It was not a glamorous day but a fun experience due to my costars and director. It was a long workday with people trying to get through it. Those are the memories that stay with me.

A database can list credits. It cannot explain why someone still thinks about a performer years after she has left the business. There is no clean formula for that. My career was brief, the material was memorable, and I showed up as myself. That is the closest answer I have.

What Happened After I Left

When I was 19 and a half, I left the business. I worked in the office for Rob Black for a time, then I spent years as a nanny. I wanted what I called a normal life outside of that craziness. It was not some big mystery. I had done what I came there to do, and I was ready for something else.

Years later, reconnecting with fans still feels different from returning to a job I had left behind. I can talk about the old work without pretending I am still that 18-year-old. I am not. Nobody stays the same.

The Site Is Back

For about four months, IAmVanessaChase.com was locked down for structural and design-related changes. That is all there was to it. The site had reached the point where it needed work, and it made more sense to take the time to do it properly than keep patching things together in public.

If you have been here before, you may notice the difference in the layout, the pages, and the way the archive is organized. There is still more to do. A website is never finished, especially one built around material from different parts of a person’s life. But it is live again, it is easier to use, and there is room to add more. And with each tweak I have to learn something to be able to make, I get ever-so-slightly-better at WordPress.

The older work is part of this site. It is not the whole site. I can write about a set from 1995, put up photos from my life now, and answer a comment from somebody who found me last week. That is the point of keeping the site going.

Where to Start

If you want the old material, the classic photo archive is the best place to start. It has photos from the 1990s that belong together instead of being scattered across search results, random message boards, and old database listings. I have added more images over time, and I will keep adding them when I can.

If you are curious about my life now, visit the Now and Today Gallery. There are new photos there, plus material that has nothing to do with the person I was at 18. That matters to me. I was not frozen in 1995.

I am grateful that people still remember me. I do not take that for granted, and I do not need to pretend I understand every reason why it happened. I was young, I had a short run, and I made an impression on people who were there for it.
